Change is Difficult

How often do we go through changes in life? Weekly, daily, or sometimes it seems hourly? Change is difficult especially if a lot of it happens all that the same time. What do you do to make the most of it and keep your sanity?

Tips for Dealing with Change

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Sometimes we all need help navigating new things. Maybe there is a new policy at work that requires special training and you just don’t understand the steps. Ask for help! Do you suddenly find yourself with several commitments piling up at the same time? If you are working with a group of people let them know you are conscientious about reaching the deadline, but feeling overwhelmed. One thing you can do is ask for an extension. Many times this is agreed upon and relieves that sense of burden.
  2. Write a pro vs. con list. I think I have written about this previously. Writing a pro vs. con list helps me sort out the changes that are possibly occurring in my life. It could help you, too.
  3. Take some quiet time for yourself. I find this particularly helpful in clearing my head. When there is a lot of change going on it can feel overstimulating. Alone time helps to quiet the mind.
  4. Exercise–not only is this good for your physical health, but it also releases endorphins (feel-good hormones) that help us feel more relaxed.

Change is Guaranteed in Life

While change can be overwhelming at times, it is also a good thing about life. Imagine if everything stayed the same all the time. How boring might that be? Try to look at the ways change can enhance your life instead of lessening your life.

Please let me know what things you do to protect yourself from becoming overwhelmed by change. I would love to hear from you!
