Book Club Thoughts

A woman with book on her

I want to continue with some thoughts about my book club. It really has become such a nice monthly group gathering. The women are genuine and thoughtful. We all share our opinions of the books we read. No one steps on anyone’s toes. And, the connections we make go far beyond talking about books.

We have connections by profession, our children, the roads on which we live, and the common interests we share. I have found some good friends in these women. People I never would have known had I not decided to begin a neighborhood book club.

The Genres we Choose

So far we have been reading fiction. Most of it has been stories of life circumstances. The funny thing is that being part of a group that is reading the same book has spurred me to continue certain books that took me longer to get into. I generally need to get quickly sucked into the meat of a book. I lack the patience to continue reading if it feels like a chore to do so. Our last book was a mystery that was the first in a series we all agreed to continue. The second book in the series will be our book for April as we had already chosen our March book.

Current Book

Our current book is called The Maid by Nita Prose. I am enjoying the main character as I suspect she may be on the spectrum. She is quirky and true to herself. She does not understand humor or the facial expressions of others. Molly works as a maid in a fancy hotel and is the first person to find the dead body of a prominent guest. I stopped reading this book while reading another book so I am still trying to figure out what is going to happen to Molly. I promise to follow up on our book club’s reactions to this book.
