Anticipating Visitors

I enjoy getting the house ready when I am anticipating visitors. Next weekend my daughter and her two oldest sons arrive for a week-long visit. Her youngest son will stay home with Daddy. I cannot wait for the adventures that await us as we visit a family ranch, go to the zoo, go to the park, get ice cream, and celebrate a birthday.

Cleaning the House

Before I begin cleaning the house, I anticipate the space needed for the new line of shoes by the door and the extra laundry. One of my guest rooms is dedicated to the boys. There are bunk beds in that room. The top bunk, reserved for my oldest grandson, is decorated in a red, white, and blue star-patterned quilt. I just ordered a new quilt for the bottom bunk. I cannot wait to put it on the bed as it is the same colors in patchwork.

What did I do for cleaning? Washed the floors in the dining room and living room (all one big room). I need to wash the kitchen floor and spot-clean the bedroom floor. Next, I touch-up painted a few small areas that have been bumped and chipped. Amazing what the prospect of a few visitors will do to motivate my cleaning efforts.

Visitor needs

I try to anticipate my visitors’ needs. I always place travel-sized toiletries in a basket on the bathroom counter. After that, gift bags are placed next to the pillows of each of my guests. Are these things necessary? No, I enjoy them. I want my guests to feel at home. Another important detail is buying some of their favorite snack foods. Then meal planning will happen later.

How do you plan for Visitors?

Are there special things you do to plan for visitors coming to your house? Do you buy certain foods? Do you bring out the “good” towels? I think that with a little planning having house guests can be a very rewarding experience. Planning ahead helps to mitigate most of my stress. I have learned that the house will not stay looking neat. There will be bags, shoes, toys, and food. There will be more noise in the house and lots of LAUGHTER! I always look forward to that! Let the countdown begin:)

I would love to hear what special plans you make for your house guests. Please share them in the comments section below.
